Soils & Garden Mixtures

TOPSOIL

The outermost layer of soil in a field and is composed of large number of organics and minerals.

USE grading and levelling to prepare your lot for sod and seed.

GARDEN MIX

A beautiful mix composed of 3 parts topsoil, 2 parts sphagnum peat moss and 1 part horticultural sand.

USE – new gardens and flowerbeds, a boost of nutrients when planting trees, shrubs, and perennials, seeding or overseeding a lawn.

*Add some mushroom manure to give the soil an organic boost!

PEAT MOSS

A light, fluffy material reddish brown in color.

USE – existing gardens and flower/shrub beds that need a water retainer and a nutrient boost.

MUSHROOM MANURE

Composted material which consists of peat moss and manure.

USE – a boost of organic vitamins to existing beds and gardens and added to pots in small amounts.

Construction Rock, Sand, & Clay

ROAD CRUSH

¾” fractured rock mixed with sand.

USE – base under driveways, patios, retaining walls and parking lots.

SCREENED ROCK

½” – ¾” screened (not washed) tan colored fractured rock.

USE – pathways, driveways, bedding pipe and under decks.

CLAY

Silt brownish, gray material with some lumps.

USE – when packed provides water run off against buildings and fills large voids.

FILL SAND

Sand with a clay and silt component.

USE – the layer after road crush under driveways, concrete pads and to fill voids.

BEDDING SAND

Sand with a miniscule fractured rock component.

USE – underground bedding of electrical or plumbing pipe

WASHED PLAYGROUND SAND

Washed fine sand.

USE – sand boxes, under or in between patio stones and blocks.

HORTICULTURAL SAND

Coarse sand.

USE – gardens, flower, and shrub beds to loosen the soil.

RECYCLED CONCRETE

63mm crushed concrete sometimes with asphalt or patio stones and blocks.

USE – base for parking lots, large driveways, and deep fills.

RIP RAP

8 to 12” round rock, not washed.

USE – around culverts and in creek beds.

Mulches, Chips, & Nuggets

Mulch products are used as a decorative addition around trees, in flower and shrub beds. It provides an excellent ground cover to control weeds and prevent erosion of the soil. Mulch also reduces water evaporation from the soil and insulates plant and tree roots from our extreme Alberta temperature changes. It is a great product to add some color and a natural look to any landscape.

SHREDDED CEDAR

Red and orange hue with a beautiful cedar aroma.

SPRUCE/PINE BARK MULCH

Fine shredded brown with lighter blonde tones.

DOUGLAS FIR BARK NUGGETS

Chocolate brown with red undertones.

BLACK MULCH

Screened and colored with environmentally friendly ingredients.

Decorative Rock & Aggregate

Rock is a great low maintenance addition to any property. It adds texture, color, and depth to the landscape. Rock provides drainage and erosion control to beds and slopes. Rock offers a good weed deterrent with the use of landscape fabric.  

There are many uses for decorative rock such as:
